Birdwatching in Kenya – Kenya is a prime destination for a birdwatching holiday at any time of year. The Tremendous geographical range gives Kenya a variety of climates and landscapes, hence the second highest number of species in Africa. Between October and February, many Palearctic migrants come to Kenya’s marine and inland shorelines. Many swallows, terns, and waders will be found during this time; whilst between June and July weavers and bishops are in breeding plumage and many Southern African migrants visit.
Kenya’s national parks make excellent centers for bird watching in Kenya – the Maasai Mara for the rosy-throated longclaw and magpie shrike; the Samburu for the rare shining sunbird and pink breasted lark; and Nairobi for the northern pied-babbler and Pangani Longclaw. Kenya’ handful of endemics include the Tara River cisticola, the Aberdare cisticola; Hinde’s pied-babbler; William’s lark; Sharpe’s pipit; and Clarke’s weaver.

Day 1. Nairobi safaris – Ngong Hills Bird watching Adventures Holidays
Arrive at Nairobi, a night at Ngong Hills hotel. If arrival is early we may do day-trip birding to hotspots nearby.
Day 2. Nairobi Tours – Masai Mara Bird watching Adventures
Drive to Maasai Mara, check in at Keekorok Lodge, evening game drive for birds such as various species of larks, eagles, vultures, waders and numerous game seen at close quarters.
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Overnight at Keekorok Lodge.
Day 3. Exploring Masai Mara Identifying different bird species
Early morning all-day game drive in Maasai Mara Reserve.

Day 4. Masai Mara Safaris – Lake Victoria Bird watching Kenya Holiday
Early morning game drives out of Mara towards Lake Victoria.

Day 5. Kisumu – Kakamega Forest Bird watching Kenya Safari Adventures
Morning boat ride along Hippo Point Road. This will elicit the Northern Brown-throated Weavers, Red-chested Weavers, Eastern Grey Plantain-eater, Water Dikkop, Carruthers Cisticola, African Skimmer and with luck Papyrus Gonolek. After lunch depart to Kakamega forest.

Day 6. Full day spent in Kakamega Forest bird watching experience
Morning birding in the forest for greenbuls, athletes, turacos, forest weavers, Stulhman’s Starlings, warblers, widow birds. Beautiful butterflies and plants are plenty, various monkeys too.

Day 7. Kakamega/Kisumu – Lake Baringo Birding Kenya Tours
Morning birding and after-breakfast departure to Lake Baringo stopping various places along the road.

Day 8. Lake Baringo/ Bogoria Bird watching Kenya Trips
3 hours morning boat ride, breakfast, and nocturnals birding including Three-banded Courser, Slender-tailed Nightjar, Spotted Stone Curlew. Grayish Eagle-owl, White-faced Scops-owl, Pearl-spotted Owlet, African Scops-owl, and Giant Eagle-owl. After lunch, we continue to the West Bay area looking for Lichtenstein Sandgrouse, Black-headed Lapwing, and Gonolek.

Day 9. Lake Bogoria /Naivasha Bird watching Adventures Trips
Morning birding at the cliffs looking for Brown-tailed Chat, Cliff Chat and then departure to Naivasha past Lake Bogoria for flamingoes and the geysers.
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Overnight at Crayfish camp.
Day 10. Naivasha / Nairobi Bird watching Vacation Tours
Early morning compound and shore birding. After breakfast drive to Crater Lake looking for Southern Ground Hornbill and passing by Kinangop plains looking for Sharpe’s Longclaw, Malachite Sunbird, White-winged and Long-tailed Widowbird. Evening arrival at Nairobi for outbound flight.
