The best times for climbing Mount Kenya from any of the trekking routes are January to March and June to October but it can be climbed year-round. The rainy seasons typically occur in April, May, and November.

Day1: Pick up from Nairobi

Leave Nairobi at 0700am and drive for 31/2 hrs. to Nanyuki and stop briefly to sort out all the equipment required for your climb as you do your last shopping before you start your trek. Then transfer lunch en-route to Sirimon Gate. From here you hike 9Km up to the Old Moses Camp (3300m) for overnight Camping. This two to three hours hike is essential for acclimatization and is also very interesting as you hike through four of the mountain vegetation belts – the tropical rain forest, bamboo jungle, and rosewood and heather zones.
These are also the areas where you are most likely to see animals.

Day2: Start Hike

Trek, Old Moses (Jud Maier Camp)-Sharpton’s Camp (3,340m – 4,200m). 
Ascent: +900m.
Span approx.14Kms / 6-8hrs.
Habitat: Moorland zone.

Your hike starts around 0700hrs going via the new Sirimon route through the beautiful and unique Alpine Moorland Zone. Walking time today is 6-8 hours depending on individual fitness and stopping halfway for a picnic lunch. You arrive at Shipton (4200m) in, late afternoon and have dinner and overnight Shipton camping ground

Day3: Shipton Camp /Point Lenana-Old Moses

Summit climb) Shipton’s camp (4200m) –Pt. Lenana (4,985m) – Oldmoses or Shipton’s.
Ascent: 749m to the summit.

Span, approx. 21kms / 9-10h from Shipton’s to Pt. Lenana down to Old Moses
Habitat: Scree / rocky summit / Moorland

A pre-dawn (3:00 am) start is essential when attempting Point Lenana.
You are then most likely to be successful in reaching the summit as well as having the clearest view of the majestic scenery. If the sky is clear right across the southern part of Kenya, you will be able to view the peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro above the clouds over 340 kilometres away. After taking photographs, Descend to Shipton’s camp at 4200mts for breakfast then descend to Old Moses 3000mts camp for lunch, dinner, and overnight.

Day 4: Old Moses-Nairobi

After early morning breakfast, descend for 3 hours to the Sirimon Park gate to catch a vehicle for the return journey to Nairobi you will have a stopover for lunch at Tree Trout Restaurant. Later transfer back to Nairobi arriving by 17:00 hrs.
