Rongai route is the only one to approach Kilimanjaro from the north just at the Kenyan border. It will take you past the second-highest point in Tanzania – Mawenzi while offering bird’s-eye views of the mountain’s rainforest.
Climbing through different climate zones it starts on heaths and winds further across alpine meadows to ascend to the arctic zone near Uhuru Peak. The descent, in turn, passes through the rainforest. All this makes this route the most scenic on Kilimanjaro.

Mount Kenya Climb One Day Trek is designed for guests who have limited time and who are not interested in reaching any of the summits. Depart from your lodge (Mount Kenya day tour starts from Sweetwater’s, Treetops, or Serena Mountain Lodge or Nairobi hotel-booking) at 0700 Hours and drive the Naro Moru Track (altitude 3,000m.)
From here you hike 9Km up to the Old Moses Camp (3300m) for overnight Camping. This two to three hours hike is essential for acclimatization and is also very interesting as you hike through four of the mountain vegetation belts – the tropical rain forest, bamboo jungle, and rosewood and heather zones.
At an elevation of 17000 ft. /5199m, Mt. Kenya stands as Africa’s 2nd highest mountain. It hosts a trio of summits the highest Batian and the two lesser; Nelion & Lenana. The glacial features of this extinct volcano offer mountaineers breathtaking views.
Your hike starts around 0700hrs going via the new Sirimon route through the beautiful and unique Alpine Moorland Zone. Walking time today is 5-7 hours depending on individual fitness and stopping halfway for a picnic lunch.
Mt Kenya is a spectacular location to fish for both Rainbow and Brown Trout. Several streams have both Rainbow and Brown trout. The Lakes are mostly stocked with Rainbow trout that are known to grow to record sizes.
